China's Chancheng District Public Utilities Bureau responded to netizens' doubts, saying that LED street lights can save investment costs in 6 years.

Chancheng District plans to replace all 50,000 street lights in the district with LED energy-saving lamps, but some netizens questioned that LED street lights are not only expensive, but also have color temperature differences that affect the driver's vision, and the color is too white to "uglify the city" and other disadvantages. Yesterday, the Chancheng District Public Utilities Bureau responded that the replaced LED street lights save 55% of electricity than the current street lights. From the perspective of lighting display index, LED lights are also much higher than the current street lights, "citizens feel uncomfortable, it is a habit problem."

Netizen: It will take 60 years to recover the cost

Since March this year, Chancheng District has begun to replace high-pressure sodium lamp street lights on some sections of the road with high-power LED energy-saving street lights. In the next three years, Chancheng will complete the replacement of 57,000 street lights in the district.

When the replacement work was promoted, some netizens posted on the local forum that LED street lights are expensive and the lighting effect is not ideal. After the LED lights were replaced on Lujing Road and other sections, the newly paved asphalt road had poor reflection, making it difficult for pedestrians to "guard" when crossing the road at night. Some netizens even said that the LED street lights were "too pale and ugly for the city". Netizen "lishhui" did some calculations and believed that the cost of replacing the lights "will take 60 years to recover".

Department: Save electricity and light up

Yesterday afternoon, the Chancheng District Public Utilities Bureau responded to netizens' doubts. The relevant person in charge of the bureau pointed out that the power of the high-pressure sodium lamps currently used in Chancheng District is 250 watts or 400 watts, while the power of the LED street lights to be installed in the entire district is between 48 watts and 200 watts. The average price of each LED street light to be replaced is 4,000 yuan.

Although the unit price is expensive, the person in charge pointed out that compared with traditional high-pressure sodium lamps, the energy saving rate of LED street lights is more than 55%. He gave an example that Weiguo Road has installed 116 168-watt LED street lights. If used for 11 hours a day, it can save 100,800 kWh of electricity a year compared with before. At present, the electricity cost of public facilities is 1.05 yuan per kilowatt-hour. This road can save 105,800 yuan a year, and the investment cost can be saved in about 6 years.

As for the lighting effect, he said that the white light emitted by LED is close to sunlight, with a high color rendering index, and the lighting effect is better than that of high-pressure sodium lamps. In response to netizens' feedback that "white light is too pale and uglifies the city", he believes that this is only because citizens are accustomed to the yellow light of high-pressure sodium lamps.
