Most modern TVs use LED backlighting, but there are several main types:
1. Direct-lit LED (Full Array LED)
* LEDs are arranged across the entire panel behind the screen.
* Advantages: Uniform brightness, local dimming capability, better black levels.
* Commonly found in high-end TVs.
2. Edge-lit LED
* LED strips are only at the edges of the screen.
* Advantages: Thinner screen, lower cost.
* Disadvantages: Slightly less uniform brightness, limited local dimming effect.
3. Mini LED
* Uses a larger number of smaller LEDs for backlighting.
* Advantages: Deeper blacks, higher contrast, near-OLED picture quality.
* Mostly used in flagship TVs.
4. OLED/QD-OLED** (Strictly speaking, not LED backlighting)
* Each pixel is self-illuminating, no backlight is needed.
* Advantages: Perfect blacks, extremely high contrast.
Summary: Most LCD TVs are LED-backlit, high-end TVs may use Mini LED, while OLED TVs do not have traditional backlighting.
