Does the LED large screen power distribution need to consider the starting current? We currently have an outdoor LED screen with a rated power of 35kW.

The engineering team said that the starting power should be calculated as 60kW. I have never considered this issue before. How should it be configured?

When allocating power to a large LED screen, it is indeed necessary to consider the important factor of starting current.

Starting current refers to the current required by the LED at the moment of startup, which is usually larger than the current required by the LED during normal operation.

This feature is particularly important in the power distribution design of large LED screens, because large screens are often composed of a large number of LED lamp beads, and the starting current of each LED lamp bead will have an impact on the overall circuit.

Impact of starting current

1. Instantaneous current impact: A large starting current means that at the moment the LED starts, the circuit will be subjected to a large instantaneous current impact. If the circuit is not designed properly, this impact may cause circuit damage or performance degradation.

2. Power supply stability: The starting current also affects the stability of the power supply. If the power supply cannot provide enough current to meet the startup requirements, it may cause the LED to fail to start normally or the brightness after startup is insufficient.

3. Energy consumption and efficiency: Although the starting current is only instantaneous, it will still increase the overall energy consumption of the system. At the same time, if the starting current is too large, it may also lead to a decrease in power conversion efficiency.

Considerations when distributing power

1. Power supply design: When designing the power supply of a large LED screen, it is necessary to fully consider the starting current requirements of the LED. The power supply should have sufficient current output capacity to ensure that the LED can start smoothly. At the same time, the power supply should also have good voltage stabilization and current limiting functions to prevent damage to the LED due to excessive current.

2. Current distribution: In the LED large screen, due to the large number of LED lamp beads, it is necessary to reasonably design the current distribution scheme. This usually includes the use of a suitable current distributor or driver to ensure that each LED lamp bead can obtain a stable current supply. At the same time, it is also necessary to consider how to reduce the impact of the starting current on the overall circuit, such as using soft start technology to reduce the current shock at the moment of starting.

3. Heat dissipation design: Since more heat is generated when the starting current is large, heat dissipation design also needs to be considered. Good heat dissipation design can ensure that the LED maintains an appropriate temperature during startup and normal operation, thereby improving its service life and performance stability.

Summary

In summary, the starting current does need to be considered when distributing power for LED large screens. Through reasonable power supply design, current distribution scheme and heat dissipation design, it can ensure that the LED large screen obtains a stable current supply during startup and normal operation, and reduce the impact of the starting current on the overall circuit. These measures help to improve the performance stability, service life and energy efficiency of the LED large screen.

It should be noted that the above information is mainly based on general LED large screen design principles and technical requirements. In actual application, it is also necessary to comprehensively consider and design based on factors such as specific LED models, large screen specifications and use environment.

The LED large screen does have a lot of power when debugging, especially when the whole screen is white.

The starting power of more than 60 kilowatts is a bit large, and the power distribution is 35KW.

The operating current curve of the large screen is very unstable and rarely reaches the rated power.
