LED screens are ubiquitous in our lives, used in displays, broadcast screens, and more. But do you know how LED screen dimensions are calculated? Today, let's learn about the calculation method for LED screen dimensions.

I. Calculation of Pixel Pitch

1. Common Models and Dimensions of Each Unit Board

LED screens are generally made using unit boards. The common models and dimensions (mm) of LED unit boards are as follows:

P5.0 Single Color 484*242

P5.0 Dual Color 484*242

P10 Single Color 320*160

P10 Dual Color 320*160

P12.5 Single Color 400*200

P16 Single Color 256*128

P16 Dual Color 256*128

Different brands may have slight variations.

2. So how is it calculated?

Here, we'll use P10 and P16 as examples, as they are the most common.

PH16 Single Unit Board Dimensions

Taking the P16 model, the LED dot pitch of a typical module is 16 dots long and 8 dots wide, while the dot pitch of a P16 module is 10mm. Therefore, the calculations are:

Length = 16 dots × 1.6cm = 25.6cm

Height = 8 dots × 1.6cm = 12.8cm

PH10 Single Unit Board Dimensions

Taking the P10 model, the LED dot pitch of a typical module is 32 dots long and 16 dots wide, while the dot pitch of a P10 module is 10mm. Therefore, the calculations are:

Length = 32 dots × 1.0cm = 32cm

Height = 16 dots × 1.0cm = 16cm;

The data is the same as above. Generally, these calculations are not needed; just remember the information in the image above.

II. Calculations for Indoor LED Screens

After understanding some basic data above, we can look at an example.

Example:

If you need an indoor full-color LED screen with dimensions of 4m x 3m, using a P10 panel, how do you calculate its actual length and height?

Some people might not understand this question. Since the length and width are already given, why calculate them? Because an LED screen is composed of multiple unit panels, you need to calculate how many unit panels are needed for a 4m long and 3m wide screen.

1. First, calculate the number of unit panels needed for the length and height (divide the total screen length by the length of each unit panel, rounding to the nearest integer).

From the basic data of P10 above, the number of modules is calculated as follows:

Length: 4m / 0.32m = 12.5 units ≈ 13 units

Width: 3m / 0.16m = 18.7 units ≈ 19 units

Because the smallest unit of a module is 1, the number of modules must be rounded down.

2. Actual Length and Height Dimensions (Multiply the required number of unit panels by the size of a single unit panel)

Length: 13 * 0.32 = 4.16m,

Width: 19 * 0.16 = 3.04m

3. Actual LED Screen Area:

Therefore, the LED length is 4.16 * 3.04m.

III. Calculation of Outdoor LED Screens

Outdoor LEDs are spliced using cabinets. The cabinet dimensions are more varied compared to modules, but the calculation method is similar! The first number needs to be rounded down to calculate the screen size.

IV. Calculation of Storefront LED Screens

Walking down the street, I often see rectangular LED displays above bank and shop entrances playing advertising text. We usually refer to them as storefront LED screens, LED strip screens, or LED scrolling text screens. So what are the specifications of storefront LED displays? How is the screen size determined? Actually, it's similar to indoor ones.

Example:

A shop wants to order a custom P10 monochrome LED display (320*160) and plans to make it a scrolling text display with dimensions of 3.5 meters x 0.8 meters. How to calculate the actual dimensions of the LED display for the shopfront?

1. First, calculate the required number of unit panels for the length and height (divide the total screen length by the unit panel length and round to the nearest integer).

Length: 3.5m ÷ 0.32 = 10.9375 ≈ 11

Height: 1m ÷ 0.16 = 5 ≈ 5

2. Actual length and height dimensions (multiply the required number of unit panels by the size of a single unit panel).

Length: 11 × 0.32 = 3.52m

Height: 5 × 0.16m = 0.96m

3. Actual LED screen area:

3.52m × 0.96m = 3.3792m²

Note:

The LED display screen for storefronts also has a frame size. Since there are many specifications for frame profiles,

the commonly used frame thickness is 9 cm. Width plus 3.5cm (on one side); also, width plus 4.5cm (on one side).

Assuming we use a 3.5cm border on one side, the length and width of the LED display screen for the storefront are as follows:

Total screen length: 3.52m + 0.035 * 2 = 3.59m

Total screen height: 0.96m + 0.035 * 2 = 1.03m
